Whew, what a week, right?
Here's a recap: Mom fell and broke her hip on Friday, was taken to the hospital on Saturday (don't ask), and had a complete hip replacement in her left hip on Sunday.
Anna and I made the drive on Sunday.
Mom did great with the surgery. I stayed with her that evening; she had two episodes of confusion with elevated blood pressure, temperature, and blood sugar levels. However, all of that is to be expected when you've just had a big surgery.
The next day, though, mom's blood sugar levels were whack. The highest was 509 around midnight. I'll leave out my commentary on how long it took the nurses to notify the doctor her blood sugar was increasing by at least 100 points EVERY time they took. Ahem.
Anyways . . . Anna and I drove back to Texas on Tuesday.
Mom is now in in-patient rehab at St. Edwards and is making good progress with the movement of her hip. Her blood sugar on the other hand is still struggle. She's been deemed a brittle diabetic. After receiving regular insulin shots and an additional shot of extended insulin, her blood sugar was still 320 this morning. The docs are working to find a regimen to work.
And that's all I know for now.

Oh sweet friend. Sorry to hear about all of that. Mike's mom has been a brittle diabetic for almost 50 years. It's hard to get it under control, but they can. A fast acting with a slow acting will probably help.
